Common use
Inderal LA is used to treat high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart rhythm disorders, prevent migraines. It helps by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate, improving blood flow and reducing heart workload. Inderal LA belongs to a class of medications known as non-selective beta-blockers, which work by blocking the effects of certain chemicals in the body that influence the heart and blood vessels. This action helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Dosage and direction
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, and take them at the same time(s) each day. You may take Inderal LA tablets with or without food, but taking them with food may help to reduce stomach upset.
Precautions
Inderal LA should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. It may cause fetal growth restriction or low blood sugar in newborns. It is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before using propranolol.
Caution is advised in patients with diabetes, as Inderal LA (propranolol) may mask symptoms of low blood sugar. It should also be used carefully in those with liver or kidney disease, psychiatric disorders, or peripheral vascular disease.
Contraindications

Drug interaction
Avoid combining Inderal LA with calcium channel blockers (such as verapamil and diltiazem), antiarrhythmic medications (such as amiodarone), certain antidepressants (such as fluoxetine and paroxetine), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and diabetic medications, as they may alter the effectiveness and safety of propranolol.
Missed dose
If you miss the dose of Inderal LA tablet, take it as soon as possible. If the time for the next dosage is close, skipping the missed one and resuming your regular dosage pattern is recommended. Only increase your dosage after consulting your doctor.
Overdose
If you or someone else takes an excessive amount of Inderal LA tablet by accident, it is essential to take immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include dizziness, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, stomach pain or cramping, headache, insomnia or trouble sleeping, cold hands and feet, rash or itching, changes in libido or sexual function, depression or anxiety.
Storage
Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC). Protect it from light and moisture. Keep Inderal LA tablets away from children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.
