Common use

Clindamycin Gel is primarily used for managing acne vulgaris, a prevalent skin condition. This medicine belongs to the class of topical antibiotics, known for their effectiveness in controlling bacterial growth on the skin. Apart from its primary use against acne, this medicine has also shown positive results in reducing inflammation caused by bacterial proliferation. The bacteria, named Propionibacterium acnes, are often responsible for inflamed hair follicles leading to acne.

Dosage and direction

Begin by washing the affected area with a mild cleanser and patting it dry. Apply a thin layer of Clindamycin Gel to the acne-prone skin areas once daily. Gently rub the gel into your skin, taking care to avoid your eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Remember to wash your hands immediately after application.

Precautions

Caution is advised while using Clindamycin Gel if you are pregnant. It is best to consult your doctor before using this medicine.
Regional Enteritis: Individuals with this inflammatory bowel disease should exercise caution when using Clindamycin Gel, as it may worsen their condition.
Ulcerative Colitis: People suffering from this form of inflammatory bowel disease should be cautious, as Clindamycin Gel could exacerbate their symptoms.

Contraindications

Avoid using Clindamycin Gel if you are allergic to clindamycin, sodium methylparaben, sodium propylparaben or any other ingredients in the gel. Consult your doctor for alternative options if you experience any allergy symptoms.
Antibiotic-Associated Colitis: Those who have suffered from this condition in the past should avoid using Clindamycin Gel, since it contains clindamycin, an antibiotic which can trigger a relapse.

Possible side effect

Clindamycin Gel might cause the following side effects: Burning sensation; Itching; Dryness; Redness of skin; Oily skin.

Drug interaction

Erythromycin: When used together with Clindamycin Gel, these two medicines can interfere with each other's effectiveness.
Neuromuscular Blocking Agents: Medicines such as atracurium and pancuronium may have their actions enhanced when used with Clindamycin Gel.
Aminoglycosides: Medicines like gentamicin and streptomycin may increase the risk of side effects when used concurrently with Clindamycin Gel.

Missed dose

If you forget to apply Clindamycin Gel at the usual time, do so as soon as you remember. But, if it's nearly time for the next application, skip the one you missed and simply continue with your regular schedule. Never double up on doses without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally apply too much Clindamycin Gel, don't worry. Just rinse the skin gently with clean water. However, if you notice increased skin irritation or any other unusual symptoms, inform your doctor.

Storage

Store your Clindamycin Gel at room temperature. Keep the gel in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure the tube is tightly closed when not in use. Always keep this medicine out of reach of children.
