Common use
Foracort Inhaler is a combination medication used to manage and relieve long-term symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains two active ingredients, formoterol and budesonide, which work together to improve breathing. Formoterol helps relax the muscles in the airways, making it easier to breathe, while budesonide reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of chemicals that cause swelling in the airways.
Dosage and direction
Before using the nebuliser for the first time or after a while, shake it for about 5 to 10 seconds. To clear your lungs and take a deep breath, completely exhale. Hold the inhaler erect with your thumb on the base and index and middle fingers on the top. Remove the cap from the mouthpiece. Put the tip there and seal your lips around it. Inhale slowly and deeply through your mouth while applying pressure to the inhaler to release the medicine. As long as you can easily hold your breath, remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for approximately 10 seconds. If your healthcare provider advises it, exhale carefully before starting over. Rinse your mouth with water after using the inhaler to reduce the possibility of developing a fungal illness in the mouth and throat.
Precautions
Foracort Inhaler is capable of interacting with certain diseases or medical conditions. These include: Cardiovascular disease (such as heart disease or high blood pressure); Diabetes; Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid); Hypokalemia (low potassium levels in the blood); Seizure disorder (such as epilepsy); Liver disease; Kidney disease; Osteoporosis (weak bones). Consult with doctor before using Foracort Inhaler.
Contraindications
Foracort Inhaler is contraindicated in patients who have a known hypersensitivity to either of its active components, Budesonide and Formoterol Fumarate. It should also be avoided by patients with hyperresponsive airways.
Possible side effect
Like any other medication, Foracort Inhaler has various side effects. Some of the most common side effects are as follows: Nasopharyngitis; Headache; Upper respiratory tract infection; Pharyngolaryngeal pain; Sinusitis; Influenza; Back pain; Nasal congestion; Stomach discomfort; Vomiting; Oral candidiasis.
Drug interaction
Foracort Inhaler might interact with other drugs such as: Beta-blockers; Diuretics; Ketoconazole; Corticosteroids; Antidepressants.
Missed dose
If a dose of Foracort Inhaler is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, it is best to skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule.
Overdose
Overdosing on Foracort Inhaler can be dangerous and may cause serious side effects. Symptoms of an overdose may include tremors, chest pain, rapid heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and seizures. In case of an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
Storage
The Foracort inhaler should be kept at ambient temperature between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C). Avoid direct heat and sunlight. This breathing medication shouldn't be frozen because doing so could harm it and reduce its effectiveness. Keep the medication dry and away from moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Check the inhaler's expiry date before using the medication.
