Common use
Betadine ointment is used for protecting minor wounds against infections. It contains Povidone Iodine, which helps cleanse and disinfect the skin. Contraindications

Drug interaction
Betadine (Povidone Iodine) should not be used together with antidepressants like lithium. It is also important to let your doctor know about any other medicines including over-the-counter medications that you may be taking.
Missed dose
If you use this medicine more than you should, inform your doctor and follow the advice accordingly.
Overdose
As this medicine is meant to be used topically, an overdose is unlikely. In case of this accidental ingestion, effects like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur. In case of such an event, please visit the hospital immediately.
